Horoscopes annoy me

I know there are plenty of people out there who are obsessed with or enjoy reading their horoscopes - but I am definitely not one of them.

I never read horoscopes anymore ( i did a few times when i was a teenager). I think they are silly, fake and bad for the brain.

Here's a few reasons why horoscopes annoy me:
* Every newspaper, every day publishes a horoscope and they are all different. So how can they all be right?
* Horoscopes are usually very general, vague and written to try fit everyone.
*Reading horoscopes can influence people to make decisions they may not have made otherwise.
*Only God would know the future
* How can millions of *insert your star sign here* have the same horoscope and have the same type of personality?
>
In my opinion, horoscopes (and other future telling things) are so popular because so many people are searching for answers and direction. People will probably always read horoscopes, as there are just way too many people curious about their futures.
>
Even if i was given the opportunity to read/hear my real "future forecast" -i honestly dont think i would. It would take all the surprises, mystery and anticipation out of life. I also like to believe the course of ones life can change at any time.

Do you read your horoscope? If so, why?
If you could know your future, would you want to?
I would love to hear some other opinions on this subject.

  1. I also don't read horoscopes. Total waste of time :) I have sometimes wished i could change things but i wouldn't. Everything happens for a reason in my opinion :)

  3. I believe in astrology regarding personality traits (I've seen it in action) but I don't believe in horoscopes. I read mine at the end of the day to see how wrong it was.

  4. Sometimes I read them retrospectively, and then make them mean what happened. But I never believe them. It's always just something I see as fun. I also wouldn't like to know what was going to happen in the future. It would ruin it!

  6. Mag and newspaper horrorscopes are total rubbish and, yes, a waste of time. Bored editors make them up - pure and simple. The actual "science" of astrology is ancient and spans a lot of cultures/continents. It is older than most organised religions that exist today. Incidently, Christianity has some roots in it as well. Do you think people would keep on doing it, all over the world, for so long if it didnt work? I mean, are all those millions of people stupider than you? Look, I am not defending it. I have a lot of doubts as well. But i did have a reading done by a "professional" (whatever that means) and it wasnt total crap. It does get specific. Also, it doesnt actually TELL you the future. It forecasts influences that could affect your life. For example, an 'feelings-associated' planet can affect your emotional well-being. How you deal with it is up to you....or fate. Either works. No one will tel you that on the 5 July 2009 you will come home to find your husband in bed with your best friend.

  7. I read them, just for fun. I've had tarot card readings, and my old piano teacher was really into the whole astrological chart thing. I didn't put stock in any of it, except the astrology stuff. I believe in free will, but I also think it's cool how forces in the universe have effects like that. I don't lose sleep over it, but I'm pretty open to it!

  8. hmmm yeah I have a problem with newspaper/magazine/web-based horoscopes - for all your reasons. But I once had my star/sun signs read and it was pretty interesting stuff - especially when it got into the relationships I have with other star-signs. But as for the rest of the mass-published 2 sentence daily horoscopes pshh.

  10. As a teenager, I read them obsessively.

Looking back, it's exactly what you're saying. I was looking for something that probably wasn't actually there.

Now, I don't even glance at them.

  11. I've come to the conclusion that they can all be twisted to form what's going on in anyone's life. Mine are oddly true and have specific things that make them that way. It's hit or miss though.

Left you an award! check it on a few

  12. I read horoscopes from Tarot.com because they talk about what the planets and moon are doing, what signs they're in, etc. I like knowing that stuff and I don't really get that info all in one place otherwise. The horoscope itself is often unrelated to my day, but often I also am given something to think about anyway.

  13. I like astrology for the personality traits part of it, not the horoscopes. Many people I know, including myself, fit the traits to a T.

  14. And here I was totally jazzed because my horoscope told me I was about to come into an insanely large amount of money. Well then.

  15. I will read mine if I happen to come across is in a magazine, but I don't put much stock in them.

  16. I don't read the daily horoscopes, but I have a couple astrology books regarding the personality types.

If I could know the future... I wouldn't. Partially because I don't believe that that would be possible. Too much of our lives are developed by our free will and the decisions that we make that it would be forever changing.

    In my opinion. :P

  17. I think they leave people room to not take ownership and responsibility for bad choices that lead to bad consequences. It's easier to blame something on what your horoscope says rather than yourself for a poor choice. And I also don't believe in being able to prodict the future so accurately because as someone else said, so much of our future is formed by choices we make.

  18. I don't read them because let's be honest, most of them are probably just made up.

We are all insecure, so we look for answers, but I think we can rely on ourselves in the end.

  19. When I was a teenager I read mine. But now I think they are so ridiculous!

  20. I read my horoscope on my blackberry every morning. I don't follow it or think it's going to guide my day. I just kind of do it for the heck of it.

there have been times that my horoscope has been dead on, but i was probably looking for ways to make it that way.

  21. I totally agree with you. Get totally annoyed when people can't live without reading it

  22. I do believe in astrology, but you're dead on with the daily horoscopes. I went and read mine just because of your post, and it's hilarious today- something bad is going to happen, i had better hide in my house all day........wait i'm stuck in here working anyways, nevermind. i guess i'm safe. :) hugs, sorry it's taken me so long to get back, but i'm catching up on your posts and loving it. Hugs
