Camping? in a tent? no thanks

I think many people have a romantic view of tent camping - Being outdoors with the sounds of nature, huddling around a campfire, watching the sunrise....Well, I dont.

Please tell me why people even need to camp? I see no point. Didn't man create houses so we didnt have to stay in tent-like things and caves?
*
I have gone camping a few times (i was dragged) and each time I come to the same conclusion: camping and I are not going to be friends. We are just too different.

I dont know about you, but If i go on holiday I dont want to sleep on the floor in a tent, I dont want to use a flashlight while i stumble around in dark scary places, I dont want to use the woods as my bathroom and I certainly dont want to sleep while bugs and wild animals roam free around me (and in my overactive imagination).

When I go away I prefer to have a soft bed to sleep in, walls, an actual bathroom and electricity.....

Please dont get me wrong I do like the outdoors, I just dont ever want to be out there too long *chuckles*

Do you like camping?

  1. Two Brazen posts in one day? :-) I have never been camping besides in my backyard when i was a kid...I think I'd like to try it at least once...maybe on the beach in Assateauge Maryland where the wild horses roam...that sounds romantic!

  2. I HATE camping, too. I don't like getting dirty and not having a real bathroom to use or other amenities. I don't know why people enjoy it.

  3. Hate it! This one couple we know always used to try and get us to go... I declined nicely numorous times... and then one day just said... look, I don't "do" camping.

Now go make me a smore in the pitt by the pool!

  4. I LOVE camping. If...

    -the weather is good
-there are bathrooms with flushing toilets and hot water available
-I only have to share a tent with my man (I'm sure four-man tents are made for midget men)
-it's for less than a week
-there are no noisy let's-play-our-music-all-night-long campers in the vicinity

    Then it's great ;-)

  5. I like camping. We've camped for 2 months straight in Argentina...that's a bit much. I really appreciated solid walls when we were done

  7. I completely agree with you. The one and only time I went camping I couldn't understand why anyone would want to sleep on hard ground, listen to the night noises (never could figure out if we were hearing a bear or a person walking somewhere in the distance), and wake up in the morning with the worst of bedhead hair and dragon breathe. All the while wondering how I was going to do my bathroom duty. Ugh!

  8. Love it!!

Now, don't get me wrong, hotels and beds are really nice things to have. And when we return from camping, I appreciate them even more.

But there's something about waking up with nature right there. Birds chirping, animals running around...the smell of the fog in the morning. It's nice.

  9. I LOVE camping. I once spent a whole summer sleeping in a tent in the backyard with my little sister. Being surrounded by nature makes me a very happy lady.

  10. I HEART camping! Not that I'm all that great at it...in terms of cooking my own food, blah, blah, blah. I am fine with sleeping in the tent, hiking about, peeing in the woods, etc. But I totally want to learn all the other stuff--I want to be one of those wilderness therapists when I grow up and get big, so I have to learn the basics first!

  11. IT's not so bad, the only thing I'm fussy about is having a bathroom with a shower in the vicinity, otherwise I'm more than happy camping! It helps that I've done it a lot, so I have a sleeping bag that is super-comfy, a blow-up matterss that folds away into my pillowase and all the little things that make it much easier.

I find I sleep incredibly well in a tent, and I'm a student, and campsites are abut 10% the price of a chalet!

  13. I heard this standup comedian once say something to this effect:

My wife really likes camping. I do not like camping. She says that everyone goes camping. I say, yes, there was a time when everyone went camping. And then houses were invented and now it makes absolutely no sense to sleep in the middle of the woods in a tent.

Really made me laugh. I like camping. My boyfriend grew up in the city and he absolutely hates the idea of camping.

  14. I HATE camping. HATE. I agree with you--man created the indoors for a reason. And beds. And bathrooms. And running water. And electricity.

  15. I love camping, but no more than 1 or 2 nights then I need a shower, bed and walls! Haha

  17. I like camping sometimes and sometimes I don't... if that even makes sense at all.

If I had to go camping, I'd prefer the Husband be with me because I feel safe with him.

  20. Hell no. I haven't gone camping since 1992. It's awful, and you have to take SO much stuff with you, and it's cold and uncomfortable...ugh. Plus I never feel safe going off and just leaving my tent alone. You can't lock a tent, and people will steal anything.

  21. I have never once been camping. . .and unless I suddenly become homeless. . . I never will!

  22. A friend asked me awhile ago "What would be the minimum requirements you would need to take a camping trip", because she has access to all variants of camping, huts, trailers etc through her job.

    My answer? "Room service."

  23. LOVE camping. Love, love, love, love, love it. I even get aggrevated when friends call "car camping" CAMPING. (If the car is right there, it aint camping to me) My biggest dream is to hike the Appalachian Trail end to end ...6 months of camping!! Funny, though, I can't find anyone who wants to join me.

  24. I don't mind camping if it's in a trailer but I do not do tents... eek.

  25. I hate it. I've been once with my husband b/c he loves it. I went because I knew he was going to propose on the trip. Once he did I made it clear that there would be no more tent camping for me.

  26. I love camping, but as long as I am comfortable enough. Which means, hubby had to either buy a just-like-a-bed blow-up mattress for the tent, or we were buying a tent trailer that has actual semi-beds.

I love getting back to nature, love watching the kids have fun, etc. But yes, it is tiring, and if I could choose, I would probably still choose camping, but for a much shorter time. :o)

  27. I am not a fan of camping either. I just had a post on this same topic a couple weeks ago. The ironic thing is that I am the scout master for our local boy scouts. It's just nicer indoors.

  28. yah i'm not a huge camper...i can only go for one night usually and there has to be lots of people there!
