An afternoon of tea & cake

On Saturday The Boyf & went to the One & Only hotel to try their high tea....
The drool-worthy buffet

When entering the Vista lounge, I am always taken aback by the volume of the room, with it's floor to ceiling windows, but this time it was the table laden with delicious treats that stole all of my attention.

After the friendly hostess seated us at our fabulous window table, we took a moment to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, lovely mountain view and the live piano singer (who sounded very much like Nora Jones).

Before we headed over to the sugar covered buffet, we were offered tea  from a cool looking menu, that contained samples of 36 interesting tea's (I decided to have the Earl Grey Blue Flower and The Boyf went for the lapsang souchong tea)

Our table, the cool tea menu and our pots of yum tea

The afternoon tea buffet table was filled with wide selection of  beautifully crafted confectionery, including  macaroons and gold leaf éclairs, plus a very limited assortment of mini savouries (which may dissapoint some people) . While most of the food was only bite-sized, it was all very decadent and rich , so I only got to sample less than half of the delights on offer (I literally could not have eaten another bite)

Overall the whole experience was lovely and rather chilled. If you are looking for a good cup of tea and a sugar rush, I  would definitely recommend that you check out the One & Only Hotel's afternoon tea.

The delicious cheesecake

Afternoon Tea is offered from 2:30pm to 5:30pm daily, at R145 per person, exclusive of all beverages. A full Afternoon Tea buffet is available on Sat & Sun at the same price, but includes selected teas and coffees. For reservations call 021 431 5800.

  1. How fun! I've never been to a tea that had a buffet. I can't drag my guy there, it's usually a thing I do with a girlfriend.
