Over time I have developed a love /hate relationship with high heels. I love how they look, but i hate the way they feel.
My mom has always been brilliant in high heels. She can wear any height of heel. Her favourite is the stiletto heel (or as i like to call it the "suicide" heel). She wore high heels while she was pregnant and even after turning fifty she still wears lots of high heels.
Growing up I was in awe of how she pranced around in super high heels with the skill of a Vegas showgirl. When I asked her how she did it she would say to me "Brazen, it just takes practice".
Well, Ive been practicing my high heel "strutting" every since I was younger and I still struggle to make it look effortless. I have even tried quite a few different products to try make high heels more comfortable (with very little luck).
Personally, I am beginning to think that some people are just born to wear high heels, while the rest of us just stumble around trying to get it right.
I am nowhere close to giving up on high heel wearing yet, but it's safe to say I wont be entering any high heel walking competitions....ever. *grins*
I'm sure you'll be and look fab! :)
ReplyDeleteI've never gotten the hang of heels either. I don't even own a pair. :)
I'm wearing my black ones today to work! I only wear high heels when i know i don't have to leave the office. i fumble around here in slow motion! hahaa
ReplyDeleteHigh heel wearing is HARD!
ReplyDelete....I think....:)
ooo enjoy the dress up! sounds like fun hey. I miss dressing up. havent done that in ages. i havent worn heels in ages either. Surprisingly, im one of those ppl who can walk in stilletos, but never wear them.. got tired of wearing them. but u making me wana go back. I have some killer heels in my cupboard!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE high heels. I could wear them every day! I'm quite short so heels make me dream the impossible tall, leggy dream.
ReplyDeleteI think you'll look fab in your outfit. I wouldn't be concerned about your skin shade, black can look beautiful on pale skin and if you're nervous about the heels I would find a bar stool and strategically place it in the thick of things and sit ever so gracefully and at an angle to show off your dress and flashy heels!
Hope you have a wonderful time :)
sleepy jane - thanks. YOu dont even own a pair? thats very interesting. What do you wear on facy occassions.
ReplyDeleteMylifeescape - I know what you mean. If i wear heels to the office I make sure i dont have to leave my desk much.LOL
Thomas - heehee...do you think or do you know??
Nk - you lucky girl. I always envy people who can walk well in crazy killer heels
Boldly Benny - Thanks, im sure it will be fun. :)
lol, i think i can do anything in heels these days but the girls in Malta go to the beach (that consists of rocks) in heels! i cant do that! lol. btw, you are going to look fab! :)
ReplyDeletePale skin is in, so don't worry there. But I think the trick to walking in heels is to walk as if you're walking on your tippy toes anyway, to take pressure off the heel of the shoe. I think it gives me more balance and control. But then again, I had to wear killer heels everyday for my last job and I guess I had to get used to it.
ReplyDeletejust keep the balance and don't burst into rock-'n'-roll dance in high heels ;)
ReplyDeleteMy bf has 2 tickets to the J&B next weekend... To go or not to go... that is the question! Talk about out of your comfort zone! Major dress-up! What do you WEAR to that?
ReplyDeleteSuperficialgirl - thats so crazy. What kind of people were heels to the beach? lol
ReplyDeleteKitty - Thanks :)
Sunny - No rock 'n roll moves for me, thats for sure.
Mamastella - well the J&B Met theme this year is "Glitz and Glamour". So any pretty, dress will do (Ps -dont forget to wear your bling jewellery).
Thanks for visiting my blog. I love your writing. I think your mom's right. It just takes practice. I know because when I haven't worn heels in a while, it's almost impossible to walk. Enjoy yourself.
ReplyDeleteSounds like one fabulous outfit Brazen! After one night in heels - you will never go back! I hope you have an awesome time!
ReplyDeleteI cannot wear heels to save my life. I bet you are a pro in comparison to me. And now that I have back issues I cant wear them anyway. Hooray!
ReplyDeleteAt least you don't have ice to slip on like those of us in the Northern Hemisphere!!!!
ReplyDeleteCorrect?????
I have always hated wearing heels myself. I usually wear pant suits with heels that are bigger so I don't fall down. But I do have some heels that are more for dresses and I usually hold on really tight to my date so I don't look like a clown. LOL
ReplyDeleteGood luck tomorrow. Sounds like a lot of fun!
I love heels and am expert at wearing them. But if you were my height, you would be too - it's a necessity rather than a choice ;-)
ReplyDeletehey lady, send your email address to mabakerscountdown@gmail.com so i can invite you to my new private blog...
ReplyDeleteI am with Kitty Cat, pale is very in due to Twilight! I own a couple of pairs but HATE wearing them only because I wear them so rarely I cant do it gracefully and end up looking like a sex change.
ReplyDeleteI can't walk in heels at all. I've tried and failed and have since given up. Some people are just not meant for it.
ReplyDeleteSo I have shoe envy, instead. And I focus my joy of things shiny on purses.
I'm 5'11", so in addition to not being able to walk in high heels, I also look like an absolute BEAST when I have them on. I've noticed that super high platform heels are all over the place these days, and it saddens me. Ballet flats for life! :)
ReplyDeleteI bet you'll look fierce! I love the outfit you picked. Just remember, CONFIDENCE! I know you'll pull it off! :)
ReplyDeleteNo if only would post a pic of yourself in teh outfit :-)
ReplyDeleteI am one of those that live in high heels, mainly because I am so short, and now i am just used to it.
