Abalone house

The weekend before last  I went to stay over at Abalone  House for a second time and it was even better than it was 2 years ago....

This 5-star guesthouse is located on the West Coast in the peaceful, seaside village of Paternoster (which is only 160km north of Cape Town).

On arrival at the guesthouse we were met by the friendly manager, offered either champagne or orange juice, and then shown to our pretty room (we stayed in the 'standard superior' suite shown above).

The room was beautifully decorated, had everything you could need and even had a private patio area.

While our room was situated on the ground floor, there are a few luxury suites that are upstairs and have sea views. There is also a very large deck area and a jacuzzi upstairs that can be used by all guests (the jacuzzi must be booked though).

One of my favourite areas of the guesthouse is the courtyard. Its filled with trees, potted plants,  wicker furniture and has a very inviting, little pool. It's a great place to have an after dinner coffee or escape to with a good book when the sun is too hot.

The whole guesthouse is fabulously decorated with eclectic, rather bohemian, decor. While the feel of Abalone House it very luxurious (with its crystal chandeliers, Persian rugs and antique pieces), it still manages to be very comfortable and cosy too.

One of the best things about Abalone House is it's location. It's located just a short 2-minutes stroll to a small beach, that feels like it's almost exclusive to the surrounding houses.

I enjoyed taking an evening walk along the sand before heading back to the guesthouse for dinner.

Well known South African chef, Reuben Riffel now has one of his restaurants inside this guesthouse and it's definitely worth a visit. I enjoyed breakfast, high tea and a 3 course meal at the restaurant and it was all fabulous.

Besides getting a swanky new restaurant, Abalone House now has a 'Healing Earth' spa (it never had a spa before) and its a great addition to the luxury experience.

I was lucky enough to get treated to a massage before I headed back to Cape Town and it was truly amazing.

All in all I absolutely loved my time at Abalone House - The staff were helpful, the food was good, the atmosphere was relaxed and Paternoster was quaint & idyllic. I can't recommend this guesthouse enough and cannot wait to go back :)
