Bocca Restaurant

Fancy some modern Italian food in a cool setting? Well, then you should visit Bocca, the newly revamped and re-launched restaurant, in Cape Town's buzzing Bree Street.

A fresh new look:

After eight years working in internationally respected restaurants in Bermuda, new owners Guido & Adnana Brambilla were looking for a change of scenery and something more personal. So, the Italian couple relocated to Cape Town (a city they loved and had some family) in search of a new opportunity..... and Bocca was a perfect fit.

After a revamp, the urban-Italian eatery opened its doors with a new menu and striking modern decor.

Side note: Oh and thanks to the owners hands-on approach, it was hard not to feel the Italian hospitality while there - So, expect to see Guido & Adnana personally looking after the kitchen, guests and operations.

The Food:

One may think that to cook "real" Italian, you should only use authentic Italian ingredients - but chef & owner Guido definitely does not prescribe to this way of thinking. Bocca uses fresh, local produce that is in-season and from leading South African suppliers (which also means you can expect the menu to change with the seasons).

The menu is broken up into simple sections (ie. meat, fish, vegetarian and dessert) and each dish is served in a small plate style (perfect for sharing or exploring a selection ).

For anyone who was a long time fan of the previous Bocca's pizza, there is good news - the imported, Acunto oven is still there and the pizza is still made in the Napoletana-style. The only difference is the pizzas are currently just a bit smaller (called "pizettes" on the menu), which allows you a chance to sample more than one without getting too full.

Side notes: I can highly recommend the classic margherita pizza and the slow cooked, beef short ribs with a side of ribollita (which is a Tuscan vegetable stew). Oh and for dessert I really enjoyed the Cremoso (70% dark chocolate mousse, orange compote and biscotti).

Bocca is open Monday to Saturday, noon until 10PM.
It is located at the Corner of Bree & Wale Street, Cape Town
