Special? I dont think so

I am trying the Special K diet. Its kind of an experiment. It sucks.

For those of you who don’t know what it is, let me explain....
I'm sure you have seen a box of Kellogg’s Special K before, right? Well, the Special K diet is quite simple. All you have to do is get one of those boxes of cereal and eat a bowl of flakes for breakfast and lunch everyday (and yes this includes weekends).

Sure, you are allowed to snack, but only on fruit and special K bars. Thankfully, at night you are allowed to eat a normal sized dinner.

Why am I on a diet? Well, I gained a tiny bit of weight over the last couple of months and I wanted to try losing it. I’m NOT a chubby girl at all, but I don’t want to let extra weight stay on me for too long. I know how much I like to weigh and I want to stay that weight for as long as I can (preferably forever)

The Boyf is also doing the Special K diet with me. I am not enjoying it, but since I was the one who suggested we both do it - I have to try stick to it. Kellogg's claims that you can lose up to 3 Kg (or 6 pounds) in just 2 weeks. So, we are going to try do it for 2 weeks (and only 2 weeks) and see what happens.

My thoughts so far:
After just one week on the diet I have found that -
*the diet is VERY boring
* I dont think I have lost any weight yet
* The Boyf doesnt seem annoyed by it
* eating flakes all the time makes me cranky
* the mere sight of a box of Special K makes me crave a big juicy burger with fries *grins*
* The berry Special K bars dont taste too bad
* Kellogg's really exaggerated when they used the word "special" on the box

Oh well....I’m going to try not cheat this week and then I will let you know if the "Not-so- Special-K" diet worked for us.
.
Ps - If you have tried the Special K diet before Id love to hear if it worked for you OR if you just have nightmares about bowls of flakes now??

  1. Diet is a four letter word in my book... and it probably shows too.

Are you allowed fruit juice? Maybe add fruit juice to the flakes instead of milk to make it more interesting?

    Good luck!

  2. I could never go on a Special K diet. I hate most breakfast cereals - and special K is on the top of the list!

You are a brave woman. :) I'm sure it'll work though if you just stick to it!

  3. Commercialised propoganda - rebel and bin the box NOW! Everything in moderation and a little bit of what you fancy does you the world of good (that's what I reckon anyway!) By reducing your diet this way you will not recieve full and balanced nutrition, your metabolism will slow down to reserve stocks for later, you will put on weight more easily in the longer term and find it even harder to lose! (I was a personal trainer and fitness instructor for 15 years so kinda now what I'm talking about!) Good luck x

  4. I say give it up Brazen!! The best way to lose weight, I have found, is to go low GI! It is also much tastier! Low fat yogurt, lot's of nuts and a low GI muesli every morning works for me - when I stick to it and croissants aren’t calling my name!
    Good luck!

  5. I really like Special K, but I'm sure that diet would cure me of it quite quickly! Meh.

  7. I don't mind the taste of Special K but get very bored of breakfast cereals so I need variety. Also, I find that Special K doesn't keep me full for very long - I'd probably need a box of those bars per day!
    I agreed with Polergirl!

  9. I've tried it before. No, it didn't work, and now I have to cover my eyes when I walk by them in the cereal aisle. If I accidentally catch a glimpse, I run screaming from the store.

  12. BB I have a friend who tried it. it is essentially a starvation diet because you cant get enough calories from the cereal. so it might work but then if you eat normally again you may just put it back on.

  13. My teenagers eat cereal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner because they don't "like" anything I cook. . . Is that why they're all size "zero"s????

  14. Well I'm like you, I like frosted flakes not plain flakes. Good luck and I'll be rooting for you.

  15. I am a nutrition major. There are a lot easier and healthier ways to lose weight.

Polergirl is correct. For one, if you lose too much weight too quickly you will be losing lean body mass weight (the good stuff!) instead of the fat.

There are so many things that happen that I could explain scientific terms but I'm sure it would just be confusing.

Seriously. Eat in moderation and work out each day. If you are not a bigger girl you should be fine. This special K diet is going to leave you famished and unsatisfied.

ALSO-- fruit juice in high in calories and sugar and would NOT be helpful to lose weight.

(This post got me all excited!)

  18. Hee hee - I'd be curious to hear if you're still on this diet? But I would say that you would lose weight on this diet through sheer boredom from eating the same thing for 2 meals a day!
