Note: When I say "love letter" I am talking about the hand-written, old fashioned kind. The kind of letter where a kiss mark is often made on the paper and the pages smell like cologne or perfume. (Its not that I have anything against a typed out or
e-mailed love letter, but there is something about actually seeing hand-written ink on paper that makes me feel giddy now days).
.
I truly think that love letters are very under rated and that more people should write them. Also, in a time where practically everything costs money a love letter is also a great way to show your love without spending anything but some time :)
If you are still stuck on extra things to do for your loved one/ones this Valentines Day I would suggest writing them a truly honest, old fashioned love letter.
Do you write love letters? Does your partner? Would you rather have a gift or a love letter?
J and I used to write love letters to each other...then we just stopped.
ReplyDeleteI don't really know why. Maybe I'll write one for him for Vday. :)
I'm not much of a letter writer but when I write them I usually but it out:)
ReplyDeleteDid I just admit that?
Its so nice getting love letters, i remember when i was at school and you used to get ones sprayed with so much cologne that the letters were smudged and it made you all tingly and happy :P
ReplyDeleteI try and put love letters in my man's lunch box :)
I used to write a lot (to my now-wife), but I must admit it has been a long time since the last one.
ReplyDeleteI don't even know what that means, what I meant to say is that I pull out the stops when I write them and I try make it as awesome as possible:)
ReplyDeleteSorry - busy day and all!
I'm a lucky girl - dave so often find it hard to express himself verbally, that he writes me letters insted, I have one for each birthday, christmas, and anniversary for the 4.5 years we've been together! Unfortunately, I'm a bit rubbish and feel uncomfortable reciprocating (for some reason... but I have a blog; inconsistent huh?) so the poor hasn't had many back from me!

ReplyDeletehand written love letters are the best. from the heart!!
ReplyDeleteI heart love letters! they are just the most amazing thing around...and these days a handwritten letter really shows commitment and true feeling. But lets be honest...i just really heart letters...full stop:)
ReplyDeleteaah, beautiful idea! i used to collect fancy paper in junior school... and like Superficialgirl says... spray them with cologne! hehee... the good old days!
ReplyDeleteaaaah *Superficialgirl* you are SUCH a romantic.. how sweet!!
ReplyDeleteMe and my partner did this last Valentine's day, and it was better than any present I could have been bought xxx
ReplyDeleteSleepy Jane - you should
ReplyDeleteSuperficial girl - Thats so cute - I do that too for the Boyf. I actually might write so many kinds of love letters to him...ha ha ha
Mohammade - Guess its time you wrote one :)
Thomas - heeheee
Julia - your man sounds fab. Time you wrote one and surprised him ;)
Kel - hope you get one soon
DT - I'm sure you will :)
Lyndsau - totally the best!
Ruby - yes you do
mylifescape - I also used to collect pretty paper..lol
mizzworthy - it is always so much more special than a store bought gift :)
I save the love letters for when my husband is away, either for training or a deployment. That way they are more special for him, and really give him something to look forward to. I wrote him a letter everyday that he was in basic training, he has every one of them tied together with a ribbon in his "special box".
ReplyDeleteAh I used to. But not any more. Sometimes love emails but that is all. Good idea!
ReplyDeleteMike - I love mix tapes too - check out this old post of mine: http://beingbrazen.blogspot.com/2008/06/mix-tapes.html
ReplyDelete- I even quote high fidelity.
Jaclyn - that is so sweet.
Po - Maybe its time to write a love letter ;)
I think this is a lost art. Most folks don't do it, because they don't know how. The information age has sort killed this type of thoughtful dialogue and gift exchange. I once tried to explain to a bunch of male co-workers (who were younger than me) how to do this and you could tell they were 'baffled'. "You mean we have to write down how we FEEL?"
ReplyDeleteWhat I used to do was fill out a bunch of romantic postcards with short poems, address them and stamp them and then drop them in the mail once a week to my sweetie. Every day she would run to the mail box to see if she got anything...it was cute. I should really start doing that again......
I think I'd pass out if I received a love letter from my husband of 22 years! Perhaps I should write one to him???
ReplyDeletePersonally I would take a sweet letter over a gift any day. I also really like things that are handwritten, it's more personal then Times New Roman could ever be.
ReplyDeletei agree. i havent gotten one in a long time, but when i did, they always made my heart go pitter-patter...
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. Anyone can "call" the local flower store and have flowers delivered. With my ex, he would wait til the day of the holiday and have slim pickings of what was left in the card section. If he takes the time to write out a love letter, that is such a great feeling.
ReplyDeleteahhh I love Love letters.. I am going to put one in my card I got hubby... lipstick, perfume galore!! thanks for the idea:)
ReplyDeleteonce i wrote one one letter..but i didn't get any reply.. anyway it is very interesting to write...
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore love letter, not that I've received any in years. Guys just don't bother... some girls are so lucky!
ReplyDeleteThanx for the idea hey!
I agree. There's just something about putting a pen to paper. Great post!
