Wandering in Wales...

As a surprise, my good friend (Antonia) and her boyfriend (aka Dan ) took me to Wales for my last weekend in the United Kingdom.

After about a 4 hour drive from Cirencester, we arrived at our accommodation in the Welsh countryside.

Not a bad place to stay for a weekend getaway, huh?

The 'Longhouse' cottage (yup, that's it above) is located in the Brecon Beacons National Park and has awesome views of the valley below and of Carreg Cennen Castle (on a nearby hilltop).

Converted from a 19th century barn, the cottage was designed by local architect and artist Donald Jones (I loved it).

One of the views from the cottage - very peaceful.

During our brief stay in Wales, we tried to get out to see some interesting places and enjoy the great scenery (which mainly looked like this or this).

On one particularly fun day we ended up going a mini hike to look for a fishing spot for Dan, which resulted in a lot of laughter, my shoes getting super dirty and some fish getting caught for dinner.

Oh, Wales... thanks for the mud memories

My favourite town that we visited in Wales was definitely Tenby. The coastal town had an almost European feel and a very nice beach.

I must admit, Wales had never been on my list of places to visit, but I really enjoyed it. I found it very picturesque and peaceful, with it's rolling green hills and castles.

I also found it fascinating that even though its part of the United Kingdom, people there not only have a different accent but they have their own language (The welsh speak Welsh....) and I found it pretty impossible to understand.

Yup...bottom is english..top is apparently Welsh..

These two know how to plan a good weekend away.

Huge thanks to my wonderful friend, Antonia, and her man for the fabulous weekend away.
