Beachside Luxury at The Marly

If you are looking for a beachy getaway that is both glamorous and in the heart of all the action , The Marly is a brilliant option.

I was lucky enough to spend a night at this fantastic, 5-star hotel. Here's all the info about my stay...

The location:

Camps Bay is an upmarket suburb on Cape Towns Atlantic Seaboard, which is just a few minutes drive from the city centre. It's well know for it's white sand beach, beautiful sunsets and having the 12 Apostles mountain range as it's backdrop.

Side note: Camps Bay kind of reminds me of Miami's south beach in some ways (just without all the retro buildings)

A bit about The Marly:

With it's enviable position on the buzzing Camps Bay strip, The Marly is above a plethora of restaurants & bars and is just a stone's throw away from the beach.

The hotel takes its name from Chateau de Marly, which was built in the 17th Century for Louis XIV and his family. So, it's no surprise that the decor is modern and french-inspired (think clawfoot tubs, plush upholstering, elaborate mirrors and chandeliers)

There are only 11 suites on offer, which adds to the feeling of luxury and exclusivity.

Side note: There is a pool area, which sadly we didn't use as it was too chilly.

Our 'Superior Suite':

We were fortunate enough to stay in one of the sea-facing superior suites and it was unquestionably among the nicest suites I have ever stayed in.

The minimalist decor was elegant and stylish. I particularly loved the black & white art on the walls and marble bathroom, complete with a claw foot tub (which sadly we could not use due to the current water restrictions in the Cape Town region)

The pièce de résistance of the suite was the balcony, which offered uninterrupted sea views, sun loungers, a seating area, outdoor shower and a hot tub.

I could easily have spent a week sunning myself on the balcony, while ordering room service and reading books. I would not have felt the need to leave at all

Side note: All rooms offer a complimentary mini bar, a coffee station, wifi, TV, fluffy robes and basic toiletries.

Food:

While the hotel does offer 24-hour room service, you are spoiled for choice in this area and  I would suggest exploring the culinary options .

For pre-dinner drinks and dinner we tried Bilboa Restaurant and it was fantastic. Modern decor, friendly staff and fantastic sundowner views. I can highly recommend the baby squid starter.

For breakfast we enjoyed room service from La Belle (which I also enjoyed during our stay at The Alphen Hotel). As usual, La Belle did not disappoint. I can highly recommend all their breakfasts, but I particularly like their buttermilk pancakes and poached eggs.

Final Thoughts:

I would recommend upgrading to a sea-facing room if you can (Personally, I loved waking up to ocean views and found it interesting being on the main strip)

The road and restaurants are a hive of activity, especially in high season. If you are particularly sensitive to noise it may be better to request a room with a mountain view, away from the main road.

I think this hotel is perfect for couples, or single people, wanting to stay close to nightlife and the sea.
